Common Questions

Drug & DNA Testing
FAQ

Everything employers and individuals need to know about mobile testing, DOT compliance, DNA testing, scheduling, and results — all in one place.

Section 1 of 5

Mobile Drug Testing Basics

The fundamentals of on-site collection and how mobile testing works.

What is mobile drug testing and how does it work?

Mobile drug testing means a certified collector travels to your workplace, job site, or any location you choose — your employees never leave the property. We bring all equipment and supplies. Collections follow DOT or non-DOT protocols depending on your program. Chain-of-custody documentation is completed on-site. Rapid results are available the same day; lab-confirmed results within 24–48 hours.

How long does a drug test take?

The collection process takes 5–10 minutes per individual. For a group of 10 employees, plan for roughly 60–90 minutes total including check-in and documentation. We coordinate with your schedule so collections happen in a way that minimizes disruption to your operation.

What types of drug tests do you offer?

We offer 5-panel urine tests (standard SAMHSA panel — amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, opiates, PCP), 10-panel urine tests (expanded including benzodiazepines, barbiturates, methadone, and more), instant/rapid tests with same-day results, lab-confirmed tests with full chain of custody, hair follicle tests for longer detection windows (up to 90 days), and breath alcohol testing. We also perform DOT-regulated 5-panel collections under 49 CFR Part 40.

For Employers

DOT compliance, scheduling, chain of custody, and running a workplace testing program.

What is the difference between DOT and non-DOT testing?

DOT testing applies to employees in safety-sensitive positions regulated by the Department of Transportation — trucking (FMCSA), aviation, maritime (USCG), transit, and pipeline. These tests must follow federal collection procedures (49 CFR Part 40), use specific Federal CCF forms, and include Medical Review Officer (MRO) review of all positive results. Non-DOT testing covers general workplace programs and is governed by Virginia state law and your company policy — it is more flexible in how you implement it. Our collectors are trained in both.

How do I schedule an on-site drug test for my company?

Call us at (757) 665-0058 or fill out the contact form on our /employers page. Tell us your testing type (pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion), how many employees, and your preferred date and location. We'll confirm availability and send a certified collector to your facility. Same-day requests can often be accommodated — call first to check.

Is there a minimum number of employees required?

No. We service single collections and large programs equally. A one-off post-accident test for one employee costs the same per-test as a batch of 20. For ongoing programs with regular testing needs, we offer volume pricing and program management support. Contact us and we'll build a plan that fits your situation.

What is chain of custody and why does it matter?

Chain of custody is the documented, unbroken record of who handled a specimen from collection through lab analysis. It proves the specimen wasn't tampered with and that results are defensible. For DOT testing, a broken chain of custody can invalidate results and create compliance exposure. Our collectors complete Federal CCF forms on-site and manage the specimen from collection to laboratory handoff — you receive a complete documented record.

How long does it take to get drug test results?

Instant/rapid tests give on-site results within minutes — good for screening decisions on the spot. Lab-confirmed results typically take 24–48 hours. Negative results are often available same-day from the lab. Positive results require MRO (Medical Review Officer) review before they become final, which adds 1–2 business days. We'll notify you as soon as results are in.

DNA & Paternity Testing

Court-admissible DNA testing, paternity test processes, and legal requirements.

What is court-admissible DNA testing and how does it work?

Court-admissible DNA testing — also called legal or chain-of-custody DNA testing — follows strict identification, collection, and handling procedures that make results legally valid for custody hearings, immigration cases, and wills. All participants must present valid government ID at the time of collection. Buccal (cheek) swabs are collected by a certified technician with a documented chain of custody. Results come with a court-admissible report package. Learn more about our DNA testing services.

How long does DNA paternity testing take?

DNA results typically take 3–5 business days from the time all samples reach the laboratory. If you need results faster for an urgent court deadline, let us know — we can request expedited processing. We will tell you the expected turnaround time when you schedule your appointment.

What do I need to bring to a DNA paternity test?

All parties being tested — including the child — must be present. Each person needs a valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, or state ID). For minors, the collecting technician may request additional documentation such as a birth certificate depending on the lab's chain-of-custody requirements. We confirm all requirements before your appointment — call (757) 665-0058 or book online.

What is the difference between legal DNA testing and informational testing?

Legal DNA testing (court-admissible) follows strict chain-of-custody protocols — verified identity, witnessed collection, documented handling. Results are acceptable in Virginia courts, immigration proceedings (USCIS), and government agencies. Informational DNA testing uses the same lab analysis but without the chain-of-custody documentation — it cannot be used for legal proceedings but is typically less expensive. If you might need results for a court or legal matter, start with legal testing — there's no way to convert an informational test to legal later.

Service Area & Scheduling

Cities served, travel, hours of operation, and same-day availability.

What cities and areas do you serve?

We serve all of Hampton Roads, Virginia: Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, and Suffolk. If you operate in a surrounding area — Isle of Wight, Surry, or the Eastern Shore — contact us to discuss options.

How far will you travel for an on-site collection?

Standard service covers the 7-city Hampton Roads region at no additional charge. For locations outside this area — Isle of Wight, Surry, Williamsburg — travel surcharges may apply depending on distance. For frequent scheduled visits at a consistent location outside the core area, we often waive travel charges. Call (757) 665-0058 to confirm coverage for your location.

Can I schedule a same-day or next-day appointment?

Yes. Same-day and next-day appointments are frequently available. Call us by 2 PM and we often can send a collector the same day. We also handle 24/7 emergency collections for post-accident and reasonable suspicion situations — those calls take priority. Regular scheduling planned in advance gets the most availability.

What are your hours of operation?

Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. We offer emergency after-hours and weekend collections for post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and urgent situations — call (757) 665-0058 any time and we'll connect you with a collector.

Pricing & Payment

Cost structure, employer programs, and payment options.

How much does mobile drug testing cost?

Pricing varies by test type, volume, and whether you have an ongoing program. Standard drug test collections start around $45–$75 per person depending on DOT vs. non-DOT requirements. DNA testing starts around $150 per person for court-admissible collections. We offer employer program pricing for businesses with regular testing needs. See our services and pricing page or call us for a quote tailored to your situation.

Do you offer employer pricing for high-volume or ongoing programs?

Yes. Employers running regular testing programs — random DOT programs, pre-employment batch testing, ongoing compliance programs — get discounted per-test rates and dedicated scheduling support. We manage the testing calendar, send reminders, and handle documentation as part of the program. Set up an employer program or call (757) 665-0058 to discuss your volume.

Do you accept insurance?

We are a private-pay service. Insurance reimbursement depends on your health plan and whether the test qualifies as medically necessary (typically for DNA testing ordered by a physician). For employment-related testing — the majority of what we do — insurance is generally not applicable as it is an employer-funded expense. Call us to discuss your specific situation.

Still have questions?

Our team is available to walk you through any testing situation — from a single pre-employment screen to a full DOT compliance program.
